Bad Weekend for Portable Devices
I have recently got a i-Pod Video and have really enjoyed using it. I have i-Tunes setup to download sermons from John Piper, John MacArthur, and many others.
The friends who own the lake house that we visited also watched our kids, a double blessing! On our way over to their house to drop off the kids, I was listening to John Piper sermon. It was just finished and I was going to select something else when it froze up. Very odd. So I did a soft boot and see an icon on the screen with a support url. Not a good sign. When I stop, I try to do another soft boot again and now I can hear a click noise. Really bad sign. It sounded like the old zip drive click-of-death. No!!! Ok, God, what are you trying to teach me in this?
Determine to not let this bother me, I stuff it in my bag and get the kids settled with our friends. We head up to the lake house and have a wonderful weekend. I am a slow reader and consequently don’t get much read with the time that I have. I was able to sit down and read part of the book “Living the Cross-Centered Life” by C.J. Mahaney. It is an excellent book on preaching the gospel to yourself everyday.
Our friends encouraged us to use their boat while we were there. On my way out to the boat, I remembered an incident where a friend had dropped his phone into the water at the ski lake that he had visited a couple of years ago. I briefly thought that I should leave the phone at the house and then remembered that I had written the access codes to the boat’s no-key starter in my phone. So I needed it if I wanted to start the boat. I have a Treo 700p and it is my digitial brain. It has my bible on it, all my contacts, notes, etc and I constantly use it. I never leave the house without it.
As I slid under the canopy to take a look and see if this was something that I wanted to try, I heard a snap and a plop sound. No!!! Ok, God what are you trying to teach me in this?
It is ironic that minutes before I had been reading in the book mentioned above about a situation where C.J. was working on a sermon, accidentally spilled coffee on his laptop, and completely fried it losing many hours of work with little time before he had to preach the next day. It will be interesting to see how God is going to use these situations.
